Sprouts & Shutters: Niles Pie Opening in Union City

The eatery will be opening at a location off Alvarado-Niles Road

After two years, Niles Pie Company will have a new home.

The local bakery will be opening a kitchen and retail space in Union City on Friday, thanks in part to a successful Kickstarter fundraising campaign.

Here's more from a blog submitted by Niles Pie owner Carolyn Berke:

Niles Pie offers scrumptious local, seasonal, fresh pie and pastry to the neighborhood from a big open kitchen.

The menu includes sweet and savory pies, tarts and pastries, featuring local and organic produce. The pastry is all hand-made, using locally milled flours and only sweet cream butter.

Known for innovative menu items Niles Pie Company uses whole fresh fruit, berries and produce.

The opening menu will include several savory galettes, featuring organic produce, such as roasted beets with feta cheese and arugula on whole wheat puff pastry.

They also will have the last of the season’s pie apples, using Prevedelli Farms’ organic apples in apple blackberry pies and caramel apple pies. Tarts with local organic Meyer lemon curd and dark chocolate, and a fun frosted version of a Pop Tart filled with organic blackberries. The menu changes weekly, enabling local seasonal produce to take center stage.

Glad to see a new local small business! I'll buy a pie every week - of course I'll have to run an extra two miles during my workout, but I'm sure it will worth it.
