Shop Local ‘Cash Mob’ at Chaplin’s Thursday

The monthly event series is designed to support local businesses.

Shop Local Union City will launch their new monthly “cash mob” event series Thursday by encouraging the community to dine at Chaplin’s Sports Bistro.

“A cash mob is a group of people who assemble at a local business to make purchases,” according to the City of Union City. “The purpose of these mobs is to support both the local businesses and the overall community.”

The cash mob will be held from noon to 2 p.m.

Chaplin’s is located at 29200 Kohoutek Way.

The restaurant, which was named the Best Happy Hour by readers in our 2012 Patch Readers’ Choice contest, recently revamped its menu and extended its hours to 12:30 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The cash mob events are part of Union City’s efforts to stimulate the local economy.

The city kicked off the Shop Local Union City program last month in collaboration with the Union City Chamber of Commerce and Rainbow Rewards.

Through Shop Local, consumers can enroll in a free rapid rewards program and get cash-back for shopping at participating businesses. Meanwhile, businesses will receive free exposure via social media promotions, direct marketing campaigns and events like Thursday’s cash mob.
