Black Friday: NewPark Mall to Host Midnight Opening

Free treats and gifts will be offered to late night and early morning shoppers.

While some people may be preparing their turkeys, others are likely counting their cash and mapping out their Black Friday endeavors.

And for those who want an early start, the NewPark Mall is opening at midnight for the third consecutive year.

Each store will have their own deals and not all will open at midnight, but mall management will have treats and specials for early shoppers, said General Manager Kelly Gardner.

Shoppers are encouraged to take part in the mall’s “Santaful Lounge,” a digital promotion that requires three easy steps.

Visit mall staff at the lower level of the mall in front of Gap between midnight and 8 a.m. on Friday to take part.

All you’ll have to do is scan a code once you're at the mall with your mobile phone to “like” the mall’s Facebook page, check into the mall on your FourSquare account and sign up for the mall’s email loyalty program for some treats and gifts – which include a free hot chocolate and cookie, a free water bottle or a free reusable tote bag, Gardner said.

The promotion is an effort by mall staff to “make shopping times a little more enjoyable” during this holiday season, Gardner said.

Not all of the mall’s anchor stores will open at midnight, but Macy’s will open at that hour. Gardner said Sear’s will actually open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Despite losing one of its major anchor stores, Gardner said the mall staff still expects a high turnout for Black Friday.

Last year, the only indoor shopping center of the Tri-Cities by midnight on Black Friday with 40 stores participating in the midnight opening.
