Alvarado-Niles Taco Bell Construction To Be Completed By April

The fast food restaurant has been shut down since a fire last February.

I know we said it before, but the Taco Bell on Alvarado-Niles Road will soon be reopened, according to city staff.

The restaurant, located at 34525 Alvarado-Niles Road at Decoto Road, has been closed since sustaining significant damage in a fire last February.

The building is currently undergoing renovations and is slated to open in six to eight weeks, city staff told Patch on Tuesday.

Hopefully it’s for real this time.

We reported in September that Taco Bell planned on reopening by the end of 2012, however, no work had been done until recently.

The building was recently stripped down and will be reconstructed to meet the chain’s latest architectural guidelines.

Building improvements include new paint, new signs, handicap parking access, bike parking along the front of the building (facing Alvarado-Niles Road) and upgraded lighting.

Sadly, we can’t have our chalupas and eat them too — there will be no drive-thru, city staff said.

The Alvarado-Niles location is one of three Taco Bells in Union City. Taco Bells are also located at 32002 Alvarado Blvd. and 30075 Industrial Pkwy. on the Hayward border.

I can see they are adding a drive thru. That's wonderful.

I'll get out of the car for good food, but not for Taco Bell. No drive-thru means I won't be a customer. Booo.

I almost always pass this taco bell up because it has no drive thru. I as well as just about everyone I know was hoping for a drive thru . Looks like they will keep the sale down from our stand point :( . I hope they reconsider and make a drive thru..
