'Union City Eats' Food Truck Dinner Menu: Aug. 4

Today's food truck festival will feature 10 trucks, along with free giveaways from a local clothing company and a raffle.

Just the other day at National Night Out, we were out at Veterans Park taking photographs and mingling with folks when we overheard two people talking about Union City Patch.

"You've gotta follow Union City Patch...," a woman said to a friend, causing our ears to perk, "That's how I heard about the food trucks!"

Ahh, yes, the ever-important food trucks — and I don't say that sarcastically. We love our food and so does Union City, as evident by the hundreds who show up to Union Landing for Union City Eats, a weekly summer gathering of mobile restaurants alongside .

Today, from 4:30 to 9 p.m., the festival will feature 10 trucks, along with a DJ, giveaways from local clothing company IMPRM and a raffle, according to Dana Hernandez, executive director of the Union City Chamber of Commerce, co-hosts of the event.

Many of the favorites return, along with a new truck, El Malecon, which specializes in Mexican style seafood.

Here's who's scheduled to roll into town today. (Note: Lineup is subject to change.)

BBQKalbi

  • A Union City Eats regular, BBQ Kalbi features a Korean fusion menu that ranges from Kalbi (beef) to Spicy Pollo (chicken) to Kimchi quesadillas. Their unagi (eel) burritos have been a favorite at the Union City events.

El Malecon

  • New to Union City Eats, El Malecon specializes in Mexican seafood. According to Phil of Grill Stars, tonight's menu will feature super ceviche tostadas, shrimp and cheese emapanadas, super steak quesadillas and shrimp cocktails served in a coconut.

Grill Stars

  • This Fremont-based food truck keeps makes sure each visit is a new experience by switching up their menu every week. Tonight, they'll be serving tri-tip platters, sliders —tri-tip, southern pulled pork, grilled pork and hot link slideers — BBQ pork nachos and chili mac-and-cheese hot dogs topped with potato chip crumbles.

House of Siam on Wheels

  • A mobile version of the House of Siam restaurant in San Jose, the truck specializes in Thai cuisine and includes Thai tacos, Pad Thai, Yellow Curry Chicken over rice and more on their menu.

MoBowl

  • It’s in the name. MoBowl specializes in rice bowls that are served with small salads. Menu choices range from Five-Spice Pulled Pork to Peanut Pesto Chicken. An Umami Tofu option is available for vegetarians.

MoGoBBQ

  • One of the first food trucks to visit Union City, MoGo BBQ is a local favorite. The truck specializes in Korean BBQ served in (huge!) burritos, tacos, sliders, quesadillas and bacon-wrapped hot dogs with kimchi.

That’s Sweet! Dessert Truck

  • Cupcakes — yummy, specialty cupcakes — are the stars of this gourmet truck. Flavors range from Salted Caramel and Maple Bacon to Red Velvet and Chocolate Vanilla. While it may sound perfect for a dessert, don't wait too long — their cupcakes sell out fast.

Tikka Bytes

  • Tikka Bytes offers Indian street food served in an American way. The menu features rice bowls, burritos and a "Naanwich," a sandwich served on Indian flatbread. But watch out — when they say "spicy," they really mean it. Other Indian dishes like Tikka Masala and Shahi Korma are also available.

Twisted Chill

  • Also a regular feature at the weekly food truck gathering is Twisted Chill, which offers self-serve soft-serve with eight rotating flavors and more than 20 toppings. Toppings include fresh organic fruit, candies, cereals and more.

The WOW Truck

  • The WOW Silog Truck returns to Union City this week. This truck specializes in silogs, a traditional Filipino breakfast served with garlic rice and fried egg. Their menu includes sweet sausage (longanisa), BBQ Chicken, cured pork (tocino), Spam, corned beef and more.
