Tree Lightings to Kick Off Christmas in the Tri-Cities

The Washington Hospital Foundation will hold a series of tree lighting ceremonies in the Tri-Cities, starting with one in Fremont on Monday night. Events in Newark and Union City follow later in the week.

Now that we’ve got the turkey business out of the way, it’s time to crack open the egg nog, put on a red-and-green knit sweater and celebrate the Christmas season.

As they’ve done each year for the past 16 years, the Washington Hospital Healthcare Foundation will kick off the holidays with its Trees of Angels tree lighting ceremonies in Fremont, Newark and Union City.

The annual event is held to commemorate those who have passed and to raise funds for hospice care. Throughout the years, the events have raised more than $360,000, said Demetrious Shaffer, president of the Washington Hospital Healthcare Foundation and deputy fire chief of the Alameda County Fire Department, at last year’s event in Union City.
