This Week: Women's Chorus Seeks New Members, Healthcare Reform Discussion, Comic and Figure Addicts Sale

See what's happening in and around Union City this week.

Heads up! Here are five things going on this week that you should know about:

  • The award-winning Harmony Fusion Women's Chorus is searching for new members. The group specializes in women's barbershop and a cappella singing and performs during holiday events and competes in regional and national competition. The group also provides vocal coaching. The group is open to all women and girls ages 12 and up (ages 12-17 must be accompanied by a parent). Rehearsals are held Monday nights at 7 p.m. at The Hill and Valley Club 1808 B St. in Hayward.
  • Learn more about the President's healthcare reform Monday night at a special healthcare reform forum hosted by the League of Women Voters. From 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Fremont Library, Alameda County Health Care Services Director Alex Briscoe will lead a discussion about what new changes will take effect, how the new reforms will impact the county and more.
  • Are you struggling to cope with a relative's alcohol addiction? You're not alone. Every Wednesday, the Union City Kaiser hosts "Alateen," a support group for teens troubled by a loved one's drinking, and "Courage to Change," a support group for adults and families. Both are held from 7:45 to 9 p.m. Click on the individual links for more information.
  • Comic and toy lovers: start saving your money. On Friday and Saturday, Union City's Comic and Figure Addicts will be holding a two-day holiday sale for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. Everything in the Smith Street store will be on sale. Also, the store will be collecting unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. The store will be open at their usual business hours from noon to 7 p.m.
  • Get in the holiday spirit this Saturday at Hayward's McConaghy House. Located at 18701 Hesperian Blvd., the Victorian-era home will be transformed for Stories of the Season. Each room will feature decorations inspired by a different classic Christmas story. The event is $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors and free for children 10 and under.
