This Week: Pajama Drive, Youth Violence Prevention Meeting, Pedestrian and Bike Plan

Here's what's going down in and around Union City this week

Here are five things coming up this week that you should know about:

  • Help children in need by donating new pajamas to , which kicks off Monday, Jan. 2. Pajamas can be donated for children of any size at the Union Landing location or any Sleep Train Store. The collection drive runs through Feb. 26. You can also make an online money donation here.
  • Learn more about the city's Youth Violence Prevention and Intervention Program at featuring Alameda County Chief Probation Officer David Muhammad as the guest speaker. The city works with the county probation department to refer local youth for support services. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Kennedy Community Center and the public is encouraged to attend.
  • Learn about Union City's future road and walkways at on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. at City Hall as planning officials give their final recommendation for a draft of the Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan. The plan will serve as a blueprint for a citywide system of pedestrian and bike facilities, along with a variety of programs to allow safe and convenient walking and biking in Union City.   • The last day to enter is this Friday, Jan. 6. The contest is open to all Bay Area residents ages 10 and older and entries for the contest may be submitted in six different categories: people, environment, altered images, animals, candid family and black-and-white. For more information, .
  • Need help finding a job? Attend the free , hosted by the Onestop Career Center of Newark, at the Union City Library this Friday, Jan. 6. Starting at 3:30 p.m., attendees will learn resume writing tips, interview skills, job search strategies and more. Contact the Union City Library at 510-745-1464 for more information.
