This Week: MLK Peace Walk, Energy Efficiency Workshop, Community Spirit Awards

Here are five things coming up this week that you should know about:

  • Celebrate the legacy of Marin Luther King, Jr. today at 9:30 a.m. in Hayward. Sponsored by the South Hayward Parish, the is a free event that celebrates the community's diversity. Folks will gather at 9:30 a.m. at Hayward City Hall Plaza, located at 777 B St., for music and a reading of King's words, followed by a march. At 10:30 a.m., marchers will return to the Hayward City Hall Plaza for more music and inspirational words.
  • Peter Kolesnikov, the former James Logan High School teacher , is scheduled to be arraigned in court at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fremont Hall of Justice in Dept. 606, according to online court records. Kolesnikov was the third Bay Area teacher arrested on sex charges last week. His arrest caused a stir in the local community, with many taking to , as well as , to discuss the topic.
  • Learn how to earn up to $4,000 by making your home more energy efficient. Attend the at the City of Fremont Development Services Center, located at 39550 Liberty St. (the meeting will be held in the Niles Conference Room on the first floor), and learn how earn money in rebates for making home improvements.   • Join the Union City Chamber of Commerce as they honor local leaders for their annual on Thursday, Jan. 19. The event celebrates individuals who have made a difference in the city, with honorees also nominated by the New Haven Unified School District and the City of Union City. A local business will also be presented with the chamber's "Best Green Business" Award. The event begins at noon at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Tickets are $35. For more information, .
  • Need help finding a job? Attend a free (4700 Calaveras Ave., Fremont) on Friday, Jan. 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Job recruiters and representatives from community organizations will be on-site. There will also be information on employment support groups, job search workshops, resume writing assistance and more.
