This Week: Lawyer in the Library, Quilting Workshop, Sports Center Anniversary Fun Run

See what's happening in and around Union City this week

Here are five things coming up this week that you should know about:

  • See what Mother Nature has to offer by visiting the Kaiser Permanente Farmers' Market at 3553 Whipple Rd. Vendor booths are located at the entrance to Building B on the medical campus and is open every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., year-round. You can find local produce fresh from the farm, as well as florists and food vendors. The market is a project of the Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association, which also runs the at Old Alvarado-Cesar Chavez Park.
  • Need legal advice? Head to the Union City Library Tuesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. for . Free consultation will be provided by experienced attorneys from a variety of practices, including family, criminal and immigration law. To reserve an appointment, call the library at 510-745-1464 ext. 7 after 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
  • Logan parents shouldn't miss , an open house event being held at 6 p.m. Thursday night. Parents will get to visit classrooms and chat with teachers, as well as take workshops on a variety of topics, including advanced placement courses, athletic eligibility for college and the Dream Act. Dinner items from Texas Roadhouse will also be on sale, along with foods and desserts from Logan clubs.
  • Learn how to make a quilt at led local artist Marion Coleman on Saturday at the Union City Library. Kids and parents will learn about the classic art of quilting while making their own squares for a quilt that will be hung permanently in the children's area of the library. Workshops will be held at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. For more information, contact the library at 510-745-1464.
  • Show Union City what you've got while helping raise money for the Union City Sports Center during their this Sunday. Bring the whole family, including children, pets and babies. During the fifth-annual event, participants will run or walk in their respective divisions starting at City Hall and continuing along the Alameda Creek Trail. Check-in starts at 8 a.m., with races beginning at 9:30 a.m. To participate, register online or at any Union City community center by Friday, March 9. You can also download an application here. The registration fee is $15 for Union City youth 17 and under and $20 for Union City adults. Non-residents must pay an additional $5.
