This Week: Halloween Fun, Fashion Show Fundraiser, Carnival of Thanks

Here's what's going down in and around Union City this week

Here are five events coming up this week that you should know about:

  • Have a . Located at 33615 9th St. in Decoto, the school is inviting the public to enjoy free games, gifts, candy, a photo booth and more. The event lasts from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday night, leaving enough time to do some trick-or-treating in the neighborhood before or after.
  • Are you a local business owner hoping to cut cost on your energy bill? The National Asian American Coalition is here to help with their workshop for East Bay business owners, to be held on Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Kennedy Community Center. Attendees will learn about PG&E's new Time-Varying Pricing plan, which calls for PG&E customers to pay different rates at different times of day, and how to benefit from it.
  • The Tropics Mobile Home Park is inviting everyone to raid their goods at the . From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, visitors can find treasures such as antiques and hand-crafted gifts for the holidays.
  • Also on Saturday, Acacia Creek plays host to its in partnership with the New Haven Schools Foundation and the American Association of University Women-Tech Trek, a science and math camp for seventh grade girls. From 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m, guests will see Acacia Creek residents and members of NHSF and AAU strut their stuff. Tickets for the event cost $30. The RSVP deadline is today, so act fast!   • As part of an effort to raise $100,000 for local schools, the on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Logan parking lot. The carnival will feature a variety of carnival games hosted by different New Haven schools and afterschool programs, a talent showcase, food booths and raffle prizes. To sponsor a booth, contact Natalie Haney at nathaney1@gmail.com or 599-2621. The event will also feature a chili cook-off, sponsored by Texas Roadhouse. Fix a crockpot of your best chili (make sure it's enough to provide 30-40 samples) for a chance to win a cash prize. Entry fee for the cook-off is $25 for adults and $10 for students.
