This Week: Celebrating Community Heroes, Free Legal Clinic, Conley-Caraballo Zumbathon

Here's what's going down in and around Union City this week

Here are five events coming up this week that you should know about:

  • Celebrate ...again! The retirement community is once again opening its doors to the community as it brings the flavors of Germany to Union City on Wednesday, Oct. 26. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., guests will be treated to German music, beer and food. Bottoms up!
  • Receive free legal advice at . From 6 to 8 p.m. at the FAJ office on 31080 Union City Blvd., attorneys will offer free consultation on matters regarding family law, immigration, bankruptcy, business law and other legal concerns. The consultations will be held on a first come, first served basis. For more information, contact Rachel Aceberos at 510-465-9876.
  • Celebrate those who make a difference in our community at the . The awards will be presented during the regular Human Relations Committee meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Among the award recipients are Richard Valle, CEO of Tri-CED Community Recycling; Juan Gomez, president of the Board of Directors for the Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center; Makhan Singh Bains, owner of Raja Sweets and Indian Cuisine; and others.
  • Join the Alameda County Transportation Commission to on Thursday, Oct. 27. If not for interest in county transportation, residents should want to have a say in planning matters as the CTC may extend the current Measure B half-cent countywide tax, or extend it a full penny on the November 2012 ballot. One of several held throughout the county, the Oct. 27 meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Union City Sports Center.
  • Help raise funds for Conley Caraballo High School at their second annual on Thursday, Oct. 27. Participants will Zumba from 6:30 to 8 p.m. inside of the school's gymnasium. Those who want to support the school but can't make it to the event may also make donations directly to the school at 541 Blanche St. in Hayward.
