In Photos: Honoring Ancestors at Annual Buddhist Festival
The Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church celebrated its 49th annual Obon festival, a tradition that pays respect to the departed, this weekend.
This year marked the 's 49th annual Obon Festival.
The festival celebrates the Japanese Buddhist tradition of honoring departed ancestors.
During the festival, guests performed traditional Japanese folk dances while dressed in colorful kimonos. The dancers were accompanied by the sounds of the San Jose Chidori Band and drummers Onami Taiko. Rev. Ken Fujimoto from the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin was invited as a guest speaker for the festival's services.
