Grab & Go Kids Planner: March 9-15

Pick and choose from this week's best bets for families: Barbies, old-fashioned games, apple tree planting and an Irish celebration.

Where/When: Sandi Holder's Doll Attic in Union City; Monday - Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekends by appointment only

Why Go: It's a museum dedicated to the world-famous doll, filled with current and vintage Barbies. Barbie merchandise is also for sale.

Pricing: $5 general admission; $3 ages 6 and under

Where/When: Sulphur Creek Nature Center in Hayward; Saturday, March 12 from 9:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m.

Why Go: This program allows ages 12-18 years of age to learn about the mysteries of animal adaptations and create their own animal masks.

Pricing: $20 per person

3. OLD-FASHIONED GAMES

Where/When: Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont (meet at the Granary); Saturday, March 12 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Learn what children of the Victorian era did for fun and join staff members to skip, jump, catch and play games from the past.

Pricing: $1-$5

4. CITY OF  DUBLIN 2011 ST. PATRICK'S DAY CELEBRATION

Where/When: Dublin Civic Center; Saturday and Sunday, March 12 and 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: You and your family can enjoy Irish drink and food, shop for authentic Irish wares and crafts, learn the Irish jig or how to play a pennywhistle, and kiss the Blarney Stone. There's a parade and a firemen's breakfast, too.

Pricing: No admission fee

5. APPLE TREE PLANTING

Where/When: Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont (meet at the Granary); Sunday, March 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Why Go: Celebrate Johnny Appleseed Day by helping to plant some heirloom apple trees.
