  • Why Go: The first annual tree lighting celebration promises to be a festive affair with cocktails, refreshments and appetizers while mingling with members of the local business community. The event also supports Centro de Servicios' toy drive and food bank, so bring a new unwrapped toy or non-perishable food items with you.
  • Pricing: Free

  • Where/When: , 1800 H St, Union City; Friday from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
  • Why Go: See James Logan High school's award-winning musicians and color guard in action. The showcase will feature the school's choir, band and color guard.
  • Pricing: $10 in advance or $12 the day of the show. Tickets may be purchased online.

  • Where/When: , 34007 Alvarado Niles Rd., Union City; Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Why Go: More than two dozen Bay Area authors will be on hand to sign books, including Ellen Sussman, author of “French Lessons." Books and holiday treats will be given away.
  • Pricing: Free

  • Where/When: , 3900 Smith St., Union City; Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.
  • Why Go: Bring in a new toy and have your holiday family portraits taken by local photographer Lulu Del Rosario. The toys, or cash donation, will support Paddy's Tree of Hope holiday drive for Centro de Servicios.
  • Pricing: A new, unwrapped toy or $30 donation made to Centro de Servicios

  • Where/When: Fire Station 33, 33942 7th St, Union City; Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.
  • Why Go: Bring the family and take a picture with Santa on an antique fire engine, learn holiday safety tips, sing carols, enjoy snacks and more. A $10 donation per photo is recommended. All proceeds will benefit the Alameda County Firefighters Holiday Toy Drive.
  • Pricing: Optional $10 donation per photo
