  • Why Go: You get to help your city become a better, cleaner and greener community by volunteering to help at various project sites.

  • Where/When: Chabot College, 25555 Hesperian Blvd., Hayward; Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
  • Why Go: Students, staff, alumni and the entire community can participate in a variety of activities, including a fun run, BBQ, dancing, alumni softball game and more. The festival culminates with a homecoming football match against the Merced College Blue Devils.
  • Pricing: $5 for admission, $2 for parking

  • Where/When: First Presbyterian Church of Newark, 35450 Newark Blvd., Newark,; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Why Go: Donate blood and help children like Scarlett, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor at two months old. The blood drive is held in honor of her first birthday!
  • Pricing: Free

  • Where/When Acacia Creek, 34400 Mission Blvd., Union City; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Why Go: Children will get to enjoy pony rides, face painting, a harvest grill, a photo op with Mr. Pumpkin and more. Every child will also receive a free pumpkin!

  • Where/When: Newark Library, 6300 Civic Terrace Ave., Newark; Saturday at 3 p.m.
  • Why Go: Kids will make their own Halloween-themed crafts. Older children will make and take home a "Mr. Bones" skeleton, while younger children will make Jack O'Lanterns.
