Hernandez Martial Arts, Life Skills Center for Kids and the longest running Martial Arts Studio in Union City announced it will be offering a Free, 4 Week “Back To School” Program to 30 boys and girls, age 6 – 11 starting in the beginning of August at their Union City location.

“Life Skills are like a muscle, the more we use them, the stronger they become and Life Skills are the driving force behind all that we do. Focus, Concentration, Self-Control, Responsibility, Confidence, Respect and Self-Esteem are just several Life Skills needed for kids to succeed in school,” says Bobby Hernandez, Co-Owner with his father of Hernandez Martial Arts.

“It’s not that a child is having trouble reading, completing homework, isn’t understanding the assignments or can’t do it; the child is actually having trouble with “Concentrating,” required for reading, “Self-Discipline,” required to complete homework, “Focus,” needed to pay attention to the teacher’s instructions and “Confidence,” the belief that they CAN do it!"

This “Back To School” Program is designed to introduce kids to the “Life Skills” needed to get this school year off to a successful, stress free start. 30 kids will be led through a Martial Arts Training curriculum that doesn’t support the use of punching and kicking but rather advocates the use of Non-Violent Child Safety Strategies as well as Life Skills which can be used in everyday life to unleash kids’ hidden potentials in school and everyday life.

“Throughout time, many individuals have accomplished extraordinary feats which were driven and then defined by their Life Skills. Abraham Lincoln was known for his Honesty; Michael Jordan was known for his unwavering Determination; Thomas Edison was known for his undying Perseverance; Martin Luther King, Jr. was known for his Passion. It’s these same Life Skills that will drive children to do extraordinary things that are relevant to them in their own life,” says Bobby.

The “Back to School” Program will cover 6 lessons over a 4 week period which includes “10 Ways To Show Respect to your Teachers and Classmates,” “10 Tips for Good Grades and a Stress Free School Year,” “Goal Setting for Reaching Your Full Potential,” “Bully Proof, Non-Violent Strategies to Deal with Bullies,” “Learning Through Focus & Concentration” and all 30 Kids will participate in the “My Best Program,” a 30 Day, Reward Based Program designed to get kids back in a Self-Reliant, Structured Routine, then rewarded for their efforts upon completion while taking much of the work off the parents.

Additionally, studies show that Confidence outdoes IQ in predicting Academic Performance and Hernandez Martial Arts Child Safety and Life Skills Program does just that, it is designed to increase Confidence as well as Self-Esteem so kids can tackle this school year feeling good about themselves with the belief they can do it!

These 30 children will attend class 2 times a week, 30 minutes per class in the late afternoon / early evenings in a fun, safe, kid oriented environment. Students and parents will have the opportunity to choose days and times so classes will coincide with even the busiest of schedules and students will have the opportunity to earn their first belt rank.

“Making the transition from the lazy days of summer to a tightly structured, scheduled school day can be very challenging for kids as well as parents,” says Bobby. “In fact, it takes some families several months to establish a successful routine. What we want to do is help parents expedite this process by introducing kids to a proven system so they are ready for the upcoming school year while minimizing a lot of stress families experience this time of year; and not to mention, the kids will have a blast and learn a lot during the 4 weeks!”

Registration for the “Back To School” Program is currently in progress and will end August 19th or when the 30 free spaces are filled.
