I can only speak for myself but I believe you're the one that's delusional. Your right-wing anti-tax agenda is routinely rejected by the majority of local voters (your neighbors) who elect Democrats to every conceivable office. As anyone who can count to ten can see your rhetoric & scathing attacks on liberals, unions & taxes has been repudiated by the electorate time & time again. Calling those …   more ›

The newspaper refers to the Union City mayor as a "feisty independent" that "the rest of California should envy."
While the race for the 20th California State Assembly District seat isn't as entertaining as the 15th Congressional District campaign, at least one major Bay Area news outlet is paying attention to our Assembly race, singling out Union City Mayor Mark Green as the candidate to watch. In a Sunday editorial, the San Francisco Chronicle praised Green for being an experienced politician. Green, who's served as Union City's mayor since 1993, has also served as a president of the Association of Bay Area Governments and was a county transportation commissioner, making him knowledgeable on regional issues. The Chronicle wrote: His track record and unaligned politics make him instantly prepared for the challenges in Sacramento such as balancing an …

My comments about Mark Green come from a much broader experience. In the years he's served the city, our family ha benefited greatly. It is fun to play with great grandchild at a well maintained park that my children once enjoyed. I can stay fit at the Sports Center, I can take my dog to a beautifully maintained dog park, and go out to a movie and dine on tapas in Union City. All these great …   more ›
Stark made false accusations and statements throughout the week.
The most talked about issue in the 15th Congressional District campaign hasn't been national security, health care or the economy. Instead, the focus has turned to what's the latest, strange statement from Rep. Pete Stark. It began last month, when Stark, who has been in Congress since 1972, accused his opponent and fellow Democrat Eric Swalwell of taking bribes while on the Dublin City Council. A week later, Stark apologized and said he misspoke. Earlier this week, Stark met with editors and reporters at the San Francisco Chronicle. Stark claimed a Chronicle writer, Debra J. Saunders, had contributed to Swalwell's campaign. When asked to provide evidence of the accusation, Stark wasn't able to and apologized. In the same meeting at the …

Congressman Pete Stark is the choice of the people & the choice of the Democratic Party, that's good enough for me,case closed. No rank & file Democrat would defy the party leadership & vote for this aspiring interloper ! There are plenty of better qualified & more deserving potential candidates to succeed Pete when he's ready to relinquish his office & Eric Swalwell has a lot of audacity if he …   more ›
Eric Swalwell's campaign wants an apology from Pete Stark for some of the statements the congressman made during the 15th Congressional District debate in Hayward Tuesday night.
In the first debate for the open seat in California's new 15th Congressional District, the 40-year veteran congressman and the 31-year-old Dublin City Councilman traded verbal blows, while the conservative candidate did his best to stay out of the squabble. That's a short summary of the Contra Costa Times report on the debate hosted by the League of Women Voters in Hayward Tuesday night. Rep. Pete Stark, Democrat Eric Swalwell and conservative businessman Chris Pareja debated health care, the economy and immigration, among other issues. From reports, Swalwell was tough on Stark, saying the congressman has become “out of step, out of touch and out of sight.” Stark told the audience, “What you want is somebody who’s dependable, who’s been …

captwgn, I assume you vote but with an attitude like that, it's no wonder we have the lame government that we have. When I had my first personal run in with Stark in 1972, he was a young punk looking to make a name for himself and look what we have now. Caveat emptor! Sounds like you think anyone under 50 is a "leftist" and a "punk".   more ›
Here's what Alameda County voters will see on their ballots in the June primary
On June 5, Californians for the first time will vote in an open primary. The top two vote getters in a race will move on to the November general election, whether they are from the same party or not. In addition, this will be the first election with the new congressional, state Senate and state Assembly districts approved last fall by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission. They officially take effect in January. You can look at the new districts at this website. The Alameda County elections department website is here. Below are the races people in Alameda County will see on their June ballot. Patch will have more coverage of these races between now and the primary. 15th District This new district includes San Ramon, Livermore, …

Rep. Pete Stark has been in Congress for 40 years, but Dublin's first-term City Council member wants his tenure to end.
Of all the Democratic primary battles for congressional seats in the country, it's hard to imagine there are many contests between two candidates more different than the one in California's new 15th congressional district. Rep. Pete Stark has been a mainstay in Washington for a generation. The 80-year-old liberal has served in Congress since 1973. Only four congressmen have been there longer. One can debate if Stark is as sharp intellectually as he's always been, but physically the years have clearly taken their toll. He battled pneumonia last year and walks with a limp. His challenger is 31-year-old Alameda District Attorney Eric Swalwell. The moderate is serving his first term on Dublin's City Council, his first elected position. He's a…

The unemployment rate in Alameda and Contra Costa counties was 10 percent last month. The two-county region added 2,600 jobs since September. But more than 140,000 East Bay residents are still job hunting without success.
Figures released Friday by the state Employment Development Department showed a slight improvement in the East Bay jobs picture last month. The unemployment rate in Alameda County fell a tick from 10.2 percent in September to 10.1 percent in October. Joblessness in Contra Costa County also edged down from 10.1 percent in September to 10 percent in October. The unemployment rate reflects how many people in the region actively hunted for work in a given month but couldn't find any. The statewide unemployment rate in October was 11.7 percent, while joblessness nationwide registered 9.0 percent, according to the EDD. Alameda and Contra Costa counties are grouped together as one statistical zone. Together, they added 2,600 jobs between …
