Starbucks Adds Patch to the Menu
The java giant partners with Patch.com to provide community-specific content to its wi-fi users.
The Starbucks Digital Network launched recently with a collection of hand-picked premium content that includes local coverage from Patch.
The network, offered in Starbucks stores over free Wi-Fi, features six channels: News, Entertainment, Wellness, Business & Careers, My Neighborhood and Starbucks. Customers with Wi-Fi-enabled laptops, tablets or smartphones can visit the network.
Patch content, which is found on the My Neighborhood channel, keeps company on the Starbucks Digital Network with content from The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and USA Today, among many other top providers. Starbucks notes that more premium and localized content are on the way.
"Being a part of the Starbucks Digital Network is a fantastic way to introduce readers to Patch.com and the news and information we provide to our communities. Our commitment to hyperlocal journalism aligns so well with Starbucks' support of local businesses across the country, so we're thrilled to be partnering with them on this," says Warren Webster, who heads Patch Media.
Patch has launched sites in 272 markets, and plans to expand to more than 500 U.S. neighborhoods in 20 states by the end of the year. The Starbucks Digital Network will be available in nearly 6,800 Starbucks nationwide.
The Seattle Times featured a story about the Starbucks network, and Patch's local content was mentioned.
