Chaplin's Sports Bistro Grand Opening a Success

Locals visit Union City's newest eatery

On Saturday, four years of planning culminated in an impressive grand opening when Chaplin’s Sports Bistro officially welcomed patrons.

“We had a great turnout today; almost 140 people came to check out the place for lunch and dinner,” said Chaplin’s Sports Bistro co-owner Alfred Anderson.

“We’ve been getting a good buzz going about the place,” he explained.

Chaplin’s Sports Bistro is located within the industrial area of Union City and although it is off the beaten-path of the well-known Union Landing - the local go-to spot for food and entertainment - Chaplin’s was still able to in the days before the official grand opening.

All 10 of the Chaplain’s 60-inch high definition televisions were tuned to the Golden State Warriors game that evening, where many fans came out to enjoy the sports event at the new bistro.

“I was kind of surprised, actually,” said Francis Rivera, who came to celebrate his 25th birthday at Chaplin’s.

“The menu is pretty simple and straight forward, but I really liked the food,” Rivera said. “The drink cocktails are pretty unique and they have also have a lot of beer."

Anderson describes the menu as “American fused with Asian” along with other exotic food genres.

“We will continue to add new items to the menu as well as seasonal items and [we] hope to get our full liquor license soon,” Anderson noted.

Chaplin’s offers cocktails made from fresh ingredients while also boasting 10 beers on tap and happy hour specials from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

Chaplin’s staff of 25 is from all over the Tri-City area.

Karlee Yong, 21, a student at Cal State East Bay, is one who landed a job as a host.

“The staff has a great energy, a lot of us came from other restaurants in the area and we are excited to bring something new to this restaurant,” Yong said.

Chaplin’s Sports Bistro is open from seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
